Successes and Challenges in Utilizing Exception from Informed Consent (EFIC) for Clinical Trials

Nov 5, 2026 | 1pm PT / 2pm MT / 3pm CT / 4pm ET | Virtual

This webinar will be led by Manish I. Shah, MD, MS, who is a member of the Neuro-EM National Advisory Committee. Dr. Shah is a Professor of Emergency Medicine (Pediatrics) at Stanford University. His research focuses on integrating pediatric evidence into emergency medical services (EMS) systems. He serves on the Executive Committee of the Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network (PECARN), is the PI for the Pediatric Dose Optimization for Seizures in EMS (PediDOSE) clinical trial, and he is Co-I for the Pediatric Prehospital Airway Resuscitation Trial (Pedi-PART).

In this webinar, he will discuss successes and challenges in utilizing exception from informed consent (EFIC) for clinical trials. Investigators may conduct clinical trials for life-threatening conditions using EFIC when the condition meets specific criteria and the investigators follow community consultation/public disclosure (CC/PD) procedures. Research on EFIC CC/PD has identified potential best practices and areas for improvement when implementing EFIC for future studies.
